What is AI Share of Voice?
AI Share of Voice (ASoV) is the percentage of AI-generated responses to queries relevant to your category in which your brand is cited — measured relative to your competitors. It is the AI-search equivalent of traditional Share of Voice in media or paid search.
Example: You run 100 queries about "best AI visibility platform" across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Your brand appears in 23 responses. Your closest competitor appears in 41. Your ASoV is 23%, theirs is 41%.
Why ASoV Matters More Than Rankings
In traditional SEO, Share of Voice measures how much of the available search traffic you capture vs. competitors. In AI search, there are no page 1 rankings — AI synthesises one answer. How to Measure AI Share of Voice
- Define your query set — 50–500 queries covering your category, use cases, competitor comparisons, and buying-intent questions
- Run queries across AI platforms — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot at minimum
- Record brand mentions — note which brands appear, in what position, and with what sentiment
- Calculate frequency — for each query, which brands are mentioned? Total mentions per brand ÷ total queries = raw ASoV
- Weight by prominence — a first-position mention in a list is worth more than a passing reference
- Track over time — ASoV changes as AI models update. Weekly or monthly tracking reveals trends.
