The Ethical GEO Pledge
UltraScout AI's public commitment to honest, transparent AI search optimisation — and a clear statement of what we will never do.
"GEO should make AI-generated information more accurate and useful — not less. We built UltraScout AI to help brands earn their place in AI answers through genuine content quality and entity authority. We will not help brands manipulate AI systems. This pledge is our public commitment to that principle."
Generative Engine Optimisation is a new and powerful discipline. Like any powerful tool, it can be used well or badly. Academic research has documented the ways GEO can be weaponised — prompt injection, adversarial content, false authority signals, manufactured consensus — to manipulate AI recommendations in ways that harm users and degrade the quality of AI-generated information.
UltraScout AI was founded on a different premise: that brands can and should improve their AI search visibility through merit — better content, clearer entity signals, more authoritative sourcing. We believe this approach delivers better long-term results for brands and keeps the AI information ecosystem trustworthy.
This pledge is our public statement of how we operate — and what we explicitly refuse to do.
"GEO can be weaponized as an advertising and security surface to manipulate LLM recommendations." — Wen et al., 2025. This research, and similar work from Stanford, Princeton, and Oxford, informed the ethical guardrails we've built into every UltraScout AI service.
The Five Principles
Truthful Content Only
Every piece of content we create or recommend must be factually accurate. We do not fabricate claims, invent statistics, create false comparisons, or produce content designed to make a brand appear more credible than it is.
-
We do
- Accurately describe client capabilities
- Use real data and verifiable claims
- Correct inaccurate content when found
- Flag when client claims need evidence
-
We don't
- Fabricate reviews or testimonials
- Create false authority signals
- Invent statistics or research
- Misrepresent competitor capabilities
No Manipulation of AI Systems
We do not use techniques designed to exploit vulnerabilities in AI systems — including prompt injection, adversarial inputs, hidden text, or any other pattern that functions by deceiving rather than informing AI platforms. Our goal is to help AI systems give better answers, not to trick them into giving different answers.
-
We do
- Optimise content structure for extractability
- Improve entity signal clarity
- Build genuine third-party authority
- Use schema markup correctly
-
We don't
- Use prompt injection techniques
- Hide text intended for AI crawlers
- Exploit AI system vulnerabilities
- Use adversarial content patterns
Transparency with Clients
Every client we work with understands exactly what we do and why. We explain our methodology, share what we can and cannot influence, and set honest expectations about timelines. We do not promise outcomes we cannot deliver or use tactics we would not be comfortable disclosing publicly.
-
We do
- Explain our methodology in plain language
- Set realistic timelines honestly
- Share when something isn't working
- Disclose limitations of the approach
-
We don't
- Use opaque "black box" tactics
- Promise guaranteed AI placement
- Hide underperformance
- Use methods we'd be embarrassed to explain
Merit-Based Optimisation Only
We improve AI visibility through legitimate means: better content, stronger entity signals, genuine third-party presence. We will not take on work that requires gaming AI systems, manufacturing artificial authority, or creating content ecosystems designed to deceive. If a client's goal cannot be achieved through merit-based GEO/AEO, we say so — and decline the work.
-
We do
- Create genuinely useful content
- Build real third-party authority
- Improve entity recognition legitimately
- Decline unethical briefs
-
We don't
- Create fake review networks
- Manufacture artificial consensus
- Accept briefs requiring deceptive tactics
- Build link farms or citation manipulation networks
Ongoing Accountability
This pledge is not a one-time statement — it is a living commitment. We review all GEO/AEO work internally against these principles. We update our practices as research surfaces new manipulation patterns. And we invite challenge: if you believe any UltraScout AI work violates this pledge, we want to know.
-
We do
- Review work against these principles regularly
- Update practices as the field evolves
- Respond to accountability challenges
- Stay current with GEO ethics research
-
We don't
- Treat this pledge as a marketing exercise
- Ignore research on manipulation patterns
- Apply different standards to different clients
- Dismiss accountability challenges
Why This Matters
AI assistants are increasingly trusted by people making real decisions — choosing software, selecting financial products, picking healthcare providers. The quality and honesty of AI-generated recommendations affects real outcomes for real people.
An AI ecosystem corrupted by manipulation — where the brands that appear most frequently are those that game the system rather than those that are genuinely best — is worse for everyone. It harms consumers who receive manipulated recommendations. It harms legitimate businesses that can't compete with manipulators. And ultimately, it undermines trust in AI platforms themselves.
We believe GEO/AEO should raise the quality of AI information — by helping genuinely good brands become more visible and more accurately represented. That's the business we're in. This pledge is how we keep ourselves honest about it.
What This Means for Our Platform
UltraScout AI's platform and agency services are built around this commitment:
- AI Share of Voice measurement tracks genuine citation presence — not manufactured signals. The metric reflects how AI platforms actually respond to real queries.
- Zero Coverage detection identifies content gaps — places where a brand isn't represented because it hasn't published relevant, quality content. The fix is always content quality, not manipulation.
- GEO/AEO content generation produces citation-ready content that is accurate, entity-clear, and structured for AI extraction — not designed to deceive AI systems.
- Manipulation detection is built into our GEO audits. We flag adversarial patterns when we find them — including in our own work — and do not deploy them.
